This cross-border safari offers a seamless blend of primate tracking, cultural exploration, and classic game viewing. It begins in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, with a historical tour before heading to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking. You’ll then cross into Uganda for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, followed by wildlife safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park and chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. The journey ends with a relaxing stay at the stunning Lake Bunyonyi, before returning to Rwanda for your departure.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Welcome to Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our professional safari guide who will transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Take the rest of the day to relax and adjust to your new surroundings.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour – A Journey Through Rwanda’s Past and Present
After breakfast, embark on a guided city tour of Kigali, beginning with a moving visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful tribute to Rwanda’s resilience. Continue to the Kigali City Tower for panoramic views and explore vibrant markets or local art centers. Enjoy a traditional Rwandan lunch in a local restaurant before returning to your hotel.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Gateway to the Gorillas
After an early breakfast, depart Kigali for Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, a scenic 2.5-hour drive through rolling hills and lush countryside. Arrive at your forest lodge nestled on the edge of the park and spend the afternoon unwinding amidst nature.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking – Meet Rwanda’s Playful Primates
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before heading into the forest for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience. These playful and curious primates are endemic to the Virunga Mountains and offer thrilling photographic moments. After the trek, return to your lodge for a relaxed afternoon.

Day 5: Cross Border to Uganda – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Today, drive across the Cyanika or Gatuna border into Uganda. After a scenic 3-hour drive, arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Depending on your energy levels, you may opt for a Batwa cultural experience in the evening to learn about the indigenous forest-dwelling people.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – The Ultimate Wildlife Encounter
After an early breakfast, attend a pre-trek briefing by park rangers. Then, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trek through thick forest trails. The duration of the trek can range from 2 to 8 hours, depending on the gorilla family’s location. Spend a magical hour observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge and unwind for the rest of the day.

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Game Viewing Begins
Leave Bwindi after breakfast and drive through the scenic Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Continue north through the park’s savannah landscapes and check in at your lodge overlooking the plains or crater lakes.

Day 8: Game Drive and Boat Safari – Explore Queen Elizabeth’s Biodiversity
Rise early for a morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains, spotting elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, hyenas, and possibly lions or leopards. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway linking Lake Edward and Lake George, teeming with hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birdlife.

Day 9: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Land of the Primates
After breakfast, journey to Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda’s primate capital. After checking in at your forest lodge, enjoy a guided Bigodi Wetland walk, where you may spot monkeys, birds, and learn about local conservation efforts by the community.

Day 10: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Head out early for chimpanzee tracking in Kibale’s tropical rainforest. Watch these intelligent primates interact in their natural habitat. After the trek, begin your drive to Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda’s most scenic lake, surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with over 20 islands. Relax at your lakeside lodge.
